We were honoured to have renowned writer and cartoonist Liza Donnelly stay with us during Inspirefest, to capture our neighbourhood through her eyes. Liza Donnelly is a writer and cartoonist for The New Yorker Magazine, The New York Times, Medium and is resident cartoonist for the CBS News. We sat down with Liza during her stay to talk about her relationship with drawing and what it is about the Docklands neighbourhood that inspires her as an artist.
Speaking about her first impressions of the Dublin Docklands, Liza said "When I first came here, I didn't know what to expect of Dublin or the Docklands, but the Docklands are a nice contrast to some of old Dublin and I think they work well together". The Marker's relationship with high-end design is woven throughout it's very being with its sleek modern architecture inspired by the geometric shapes that exist naturally on our Island, unparalleled city views, infinity pool and Philippe Starck lamps in each of the guestrooms. Located in the Dublin Docklands where starchitects such as Daniel Libeskind, Martha Schwartz and Santiago Calatrava feature prominently, Liza Donnelly mentioned how such an area would only inspire creative people to think differently saying "you look out your window from your room and you see the beautiful angular spaces, the water and then people just using that open area, walking, biking and paddle boarding".
